He's going to hit third for us in the lineup. I want him to keep doing what he does for us. He's going to play centerfield, which is a little different than what he is used to. I think he'll do a great job as a leader there helping out the guys on each side.

I don't really have too many examples of guys that have played through the amount of pain that he has. Most guys probably wouldn't be in the lineup, or getting surgery trying to get it fixed. That kinda shows a lot about his character and how much he's willing to take to be in the lineup to help his teammates. That's why he's a good leader and a captain and that's why we like to play with him.

When Brooks pitches like that, our whole team feeds off that and we have some momentum. We made some adjustments after our first at bat, and I liked how our offense responded. We had good balance in the lineup and got a couple of two-out hits and that certainly helps you win games. I wasn't happy with our infield defense, but I was excited to see what Joey Side did in centerfield. He made some great plays out there. There are great young pitchers, guys who can go the distance. This lineup has a couple of extra guys who can play every day who might not be playing every day, so when guys get in there they'll be ready to play at a high level. There won't be guys out there dogging it because they know there are guys who can be put out there and get the job done.

Brendan Witt is playing great. He blocks shots. He is also a leader. With him in the lineup the whole defense has the pressure taken off of them. We have a lot of young guys and a veteran like Brendan helps them play better.

He's a good leader on and off the ice. He's always here early hanging out with the guys. He just likes to be around the building. He comes to play every night, and he's great in practice. He's our leader, and we follow his lead.

He always gets over the advantage line and gives us go-forward. He's a key member of the side and has been great helping out the younger guys,

It wouldn't have mattered if they only had five guys to play with. Sometimes when a great player is not in the lineup, that's when a team is most dangerous because you play together and you play loose. That was in our mind before the game, and our goal was to jump on them early.

He's awesome. He's a big part of the team and when he's playing, he's playing well. He's a leader and a great guy in the locker room, helping the other guys. He's funny on the bench during games. I like to sit next to him.

He teaches us to be professionals. He preaches all the time about separating the two things, the fun side of this and the business side of this. We like how he deals with us. This was just another example of why guys like to play for him. He makes this a great atmosphere for all of us. He wants us to be successful.

He's a clubhouse leader, great for young players to be around, knows how to play the game, accepts his role willingly and does it as well as any of the other top flight guys that come off benches and play, that you can think of. What's there not to like about this guy?

They've done a great job in helping each other out. We're able to mix and match and play those guys in certain personnel groups at different times. It gives us flexibility.

I'm one of those guys who accepts the challenge of helping others and being a leader.

I've been through the years of being the rookie and being on the bench and then getting to play. And to be honest with you, now I'm as confident as ever. It's time for me to step up. It's time for me to be a leader. I can voice my opinion and try to push guys, but not really forceful. Just prove to them that I'm here to play, I want you guys to be ready to play and let's just go out and play hard baseball.

Unless there is an injury somewhere along the line, our starting lineup will be set. Guys will settle in and not feel the pressure of having to get a hit to stay in the lineup the next day. We've been communicating all along, but there's still that edge of, 'Hey, I gotta get a couple hits here or I'm not going to play.' And it's not like that. We just said, 'Everybody win jobs,' and that's what they did.
