We believe that the Palestinian leadership should be treated by the Israeli government like they treat other Arab governments.

Sharon today has crossed all red lines. It's a start of a new Israeli policy, I believe. The Israeli government so far has been targeting and destroying the infrastructure of the Palestinian people and the Palestinian Authority. Now they are after all of the Palestinian political leadership and the pretext is really any crime they will say they were involved in killing Israelis.

The best we can ever hope for is to win enough votes in the Palestinian parliament, allowing us to have a minister or two in the government so that we can have our say in the way things are run, particularly in matters of importance to us. The Arab Boycott Bureau has been an ineffectual economic weapon, it has clearly not damaged the Israeli economy, but it did have political impact. As Arab leaders consider lifting it they should ensure that the Palestinian economy draws substantial benefits. Such a move would have the added benefit of narrowing the economic gap between both communities, making negotiation more feasible.

The issue of East Jerusalem has come up in previous Palestinian votes, and the Palestinian Authority has been able to work out accommodations with the Israeli government to allow voting for people in that area.

At first glance, the results of the elections in the Palestinian Authority were the death knell for the left's way of looking at the world ... and affirm the Israeli right's understanding of the essence of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
