A one-size-fits-all approach to globalization is neither acceptable nor workable in a world where people take pride in their cultural heritage and do not want to see it eroded in the name of progress. By accepting that people and their societies differ from country to country and by regarding their customs and cultures as national assets, we can seek to identify the factors that are common to all peoples of the world and utilize them to promote sustainable economic growth with maximum effect. This year's forum will highlight and encourage this critical approach to globalization.

We seek foreign assistance to help us develop our security forces and to partner with us as we try to further sustainable economic growth in our shattered country.

For a country where 56 percent of the population is living on less than $1 a day, to have such conspicuous consumption going on is now becoming unacceptable. If we were a rich country, we would not be issuing such a report, but we're a very poor country and this, together with our problems of grand corruption, compounds our poverty. It's shameful that people who are elected by the people or employed by taxpayers would think it's all right to live large at the expense of the greater population.

The economic cost of transportation in our country is significantly higher than that of our competitors. This makes our country less competitive. It further constrains the growth of our economy.

If I decide to run for the presidency, or seek re-election, it will be for the right reasons, and the reasons are that I think I can make a contribution and help effect change in our country and have some influence over the direction of this country,

It's not what corruption costs in terms of bribes paid or money taken out of the country. It is really the opportunity cost that hurts the country the most in terms of lost infrastructure and investment. Many of our clients, major international companies, just won't come into the country because they do not trust the rules of the game. That's the real cost. Some people have just written the place off.
