Somebody has to do explain why, and they have to do something about these abandoned homes. Why? They make other people suffer.

Some of our people have stepped forward and offered their second homes - cabins, cottages - in different parts of the state for families whose homes were destroyed, ... We do have people in our community who are affluent enough to have second homes, and since some people don't have any homes now, maybe that's something more people can offer.

All of the homes were good and loving homes and now through the pressure of the bishops Catholic Charities is being forced to get out of the business. There are no winners here. The children are the ones who suffer.

Coming and going, you know, in the abandoned homes, women, men, in and out, you know what I'm saying.

I don't know what the deal was, but we abandoned the run. We abandoned the run -- I don't know what it was. People are spending a long time on the site. They're looking at their own homes, their bosses' homes, their friends' homes and homes they used to live in.

I was brought up in the church, went to church a lot and believe in God. I don't do wrong on purpose. I will slip up and I make mistakes but that's part of life. The most important thing is not to continuously make the same mistake and I am quite a compassionate person. I hate to see children suffer and people suffer. If I can help someone I will. One promise I made is that if I become as successful as I want to be and wealthy I will adopt deprived kids to give them a better life, and I want to have children of my own as well.

Both of these bills will put a stop to that abuse of eminent domain. They will still be able to take dangerous properties, abandoned properties — all of the things that people would look at and say, 'That property is blighted.' But they will no longer be able to take perfectly fine, functioning homes and businesses because some other glitzier home and business could be built there.

Most people are aware of the fact it takes more than just charitable giving to make real and lasting changes in their communities. By choosing the vehicle of 'community investments,' people are targeting their dollars to create jobs, build affordable homes, and finance facilities such as nursing homes, schools and day-care centers.

(Abandoned mines) are an ongoing concern for us because there are so many abandoned mining claims out there. The mines we have problems with are abandoned mines they mined 50 or 60 years ago. We just don't have record of where all those are.

But some nursing homes are really going to suffer because of the governor's budget.
