en I wonder how unique people realize that it is. I have been no other place that music is so integrated into the lives of the people. Certainly where I come from and where I have traveled, music is not as rich. Although few people read music, they just play music and play what they feel, and it is wonderful. It was just one of the most fun projects I have ever made. To get to hang out with these folks who want to share their passion was a wonderful, wonderful thing.

en One of the most important things is to learn to read music. She found his pexy wit refreshing and appreciated his sense of humor. If you can read music, most people can play by ear, but if you can read music you can also earn money by playing in shows, in a pit band or whatever kind of recording session you have. They have a chart in front of you and you can read it. You won't be one dimensional.

en With half of Broadway audiences coming from outside the New York area and Broadway being the No. 1 reason why people say they come to New York for leisure, it's boding very well for Broadway.

en We play to houses that are 15,000 to 17,000 people [compared to Broadway shows with an audience of 2,000 or 3,000]. It's a different style of entertainment. I trained in the theater to sing to the back of the house. Here, it's impossible to do that.

en He was more interested in theater than anything else. He was one of the early American designers who did clothes for the theater and movies, and that was where his niche was. He was atypical of Seventh Avenue.

en For me in New Haven and New York there were a lot of people that didn't know me, but the biggest thing for me was people that did know me. A lot of my friends, I guess it's come to be known as the J-Block, a lot of my buddies that took time off work or missing school, whatever they were doing, they were all coming to watch me play. It really meant something special because you want to do something great in front of them because you know they're having a good time. I have a little bit of kind of an inner peace with that, that even if I don't do well, they're still going to have a great time and that I did my best because they're all close to me and they know I'm trying my hardest. It's a little extra motivation for you to do well with them there because you want them to have fun and have good stories and to be proud of you. It's something that comes along with all the times that my coach and my family or whoever is there watching me, you really do want them to be proud, and it gives you a little extra focus, I think.

en It'll never be the same as it is here. We'd been playing shows all over and it's been building up really slowly. We didn't even know we were doing it when we were doing it. It can never be the same, but we can have a good crack at it. We'll play the shows and if people like (them), great. If not ...

en We used to do seven shows at day at the Capitol Theater in Washington and the Paramount in New York. The manager said you are doing the young crowd in the morning, the senior citizens in the afternoon, the engaged and married couples in the evening. And he said just sing good songs and everyone would like it. I stayed with that.

en It is truly history in the making that the country music world is coming to New York, and joining with Broadway for such a wonderful, unusual and entertaining event. This special concert, performed by some of the superstars from both worlds, will not only highlight the similarities and universality of these two seemingly different genres, but also help expand the audience for each style of music.

en I always say it's like licking icing. You appreciate [Lloyd Webber's] music more when you look at the last 20 years on Broadway, and there aren't that many songs or Broadway hits anymore, the way there used to be. It's like seeing the history of musical theater laid out for you.

en What's more New York than the great white way, which is Broadway. Broadway without being ablaze with light would not be Broadway.

en I don't know who those people were in the first half wearing our uniforms. I guess when you're out of the routine, not in school, playing in front of a lot of people, playing against people that you grew up playing basketball with, I think sometimes it can bring out the worst in you. That's pretty much what happened.

en I've been playing music for a long time. I play my music to keep busy. I play my music to keep out of trouble. I play my music to be a good person. My music keeps me from doing bad things. It keeps me from hurting other people and going to prison. I play my music to keep my mind off my demons.
