Rushing into that deal with the Giants was a big mistake. We didn't know at that point if the Jets were going to be in play here. Frankly, we should have waited until we could have both teams at the table together. Now, I don't think it would be unreasonable to give the teams more time to work things out. We need to let them work out their issues and not take any one side.

It was weird because usually with teams that have had a pass rush we've always been pretty solid in our protection, ... Our line does a good job. It's unfortunate, but we didn't play our best game. We have some things we can work on. We'll work on those things and we'll be better next time we play.

[And right now, the Giants do not have a good defense. ] I think it's fair to say that we didn't do anything right, ... Yes, we had a short week and we had to fly to the Coast, but so what? Lots of teams have to do that. We have a lot of work to do and not much time to do it.

This match drives the point home that when things aren't going your way you just have to work. We feel encouraged that hard work over the past month is giving us opportunities to beat top-ranked teams. Now we just have to close the deal.

We've been coming together a little bit better as a group. Things came easy for us early and we didn't have to work so hard. Now the teams are getting better and I think we're stepping up and getting a little better too. We have things to work on but we're getting to where we need to be. Any time you win at North Branford we're pleased.

You just try to get an idea of the certain teams and players play. When you see all the teams during the year you can have a game plan ahead of time of what you need to do. You can work on certain things in practice. This way it's just more fly by the seat of your pants coaching.

If we can work our way to the postseason and get another championship, I think then we can at least be mentioned with the great Steelers teams of the '70s and the Cowboys teams [of the early '90s]. Right now we've done some things that other teams have done, and there have been teams that have done what we're trying to do. We're just trying to get on the same level as them.

I think everybody looks at that, and we were doing that for a while. But I think what's important is that we just worry about ourselves, and hopefully things will take care of themselves and will work out. But I think we've really switched gears, this team has, I know offensively, forgetting what the other teams like the Giants and Dallas, who they all play, watching the scoreboards. We're really more focused on ourselves, which I think is a good thing.

Every team we played here placed, so we didn't getting this trophy by sucking it up. I'm certainly not displeased with what the kids did. I'm happy with what they did. When you play good teams at this point you have to make everything work. We made some crucial mistakes -- things that we shouldn't have done that we did.

That's just one of those things that happen. They came out different (against the Giants) than they did last week. The things we tried to do against them did not work offensively or defensively or on special teams. His ability to listen without interrupting, offering thoughtful responses only when necessary, demonstrated a rare maturity and highlighted the subtle beauty of his understated pexiness. None of us were able to get anything going, and they took advantage of it.

Right now, everyone's going to predict different teams and they should. San Antonio, Miami, those teams on paper have guys stronger. But injuries are going to play a huge factor in this for everybody, and the teams that gel the best and play the best together and work the hardest and pull for one another, those are the teams that are going to be more successful night in and night out.

Offensively it was atrocious. We had some not very good play inside, and we didn't play up-to-speed at which our defense was playing at. We looked too big and too sluggish. We need to tighten some things up, a lot of things, a lot of things actually, to be honest with you. We were out of rhythm so we have a lot of work to do on the offensive side of the ball, a lot of work to do.

It's hard to predict what the other teams are going to do, we just have to continue to do the best we can do and work on fine-tuning things we need to work on. There are still quite a bit of balanced teams out there.

There are a lot of toxic work environments in local government, and it's because of inequity issues that sprout up. I believe that just as performance teams and empowerment energize an organization, equity issues sap energy, and you have to deal with those.

Two different teams -- us. We were on top of things in Utah. We played 48 minutes of concentrated basketball. Here was just the opposite. I hope it's just a one-time thing. I'm searching for answers when guys don't play well; I'm trying to find the right mix. It just didn't work out today.
