It went well. We had a champion, a runner-up, a fourth and a sixth.

It was the first time Jackson ran the event. Each runner passed a person as we went from sixth to third. The more she runs that the better she will get.

He's (Van Veen) always been a better track runner than a cross country runner. Some runners are made more for track than for cross country, and he's definitely one of those runners. Jessica finished 15th overall, just missing the cut for Team Connecticut by a little over two seconds. Still, it was quite an accomplishment going from 24th place to 15th place in a highly competitive field.

We talked about taking him (out) after the sixth, decided we'd take him out if he allowed a runner in the seventh, then pushed it back even further. We really wanted him to get the complete game, but I think we went as far as the string could go.

Our spread from our first through sixth runners was only about one minute, so our pack is starting to tighten up. We're hoping to have that down to between 30-45 seconds in the next three-four weeks.

The thing that killed us is our fifth runner. We're waiting over a 1:40 between our fourth and fifth runner. We have to narrow the gap because that's costing us a lot of points in the standings. We're looking for a fifth runner to step up and pull us through.

I always seem to be stronger in the sixth and seventh innings. Maybe as I get closer to the end of the night, I figure that I better finish strong. It?s like a distance runner who wants to make that kick at the end. You do it no matter how much it hurts.

It was very exciting. The last match I had, I was just hoping to place fifth. Sixth would have been fine, but I wanted to place fifth.

A lot of people didn't think we were good enough this year to reach eighth place. We only missed sixth place by a couple of points.
