Our plan will help students and colleges affected by Katrina and Rita to quickly get back to learning and teaching, and will assist the Gulf Coast's plan to revitalize its economy and culture,

Most of our schools and other divisions have taken concrete steps to determine how they can support university students whose families have felt the brunt of Hurricane Katrina, ... Several are accommodating students from Gulf Coast colleges whose plans have been entirely disrupted this fall.

We plan to rebuild and rebuild quickly. While we will take the time necessary to carefully assess the situation, we are also dedicated to identifying the fastest way to rebuild and restart the Gulf Coast economy and the lives of our employees and their community.

When Katrina, Rita, and Wilma ravaged Florida and the Gulf Coast, our employees did an extraordinary job under the worst of circumstances.

Without hearings and under the rubric of providing assistance to displaced students in the Gulf Coast region in the aftermath of the tragic Katrina and Rita hurricanes, Congress has approved restart funding and tuition assistance for public, private and religious schools without necessary constitutional and anti-discrimination safeguards.

Several major police incidents were not in any 100-day plan. Hurricane Katrina wasn't in any 100-day plan. The DWP power outage was not in any 100-day plan.

During the quarter, our U.S. Gulf Coast operations were significantly impacted by Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Dennis. Despite these impacts, our overall operating performance for the quarter was good, and we continued to benefit from the strong commodity price environment.

Certainly Katrina eliminated boating activities in that part of the Gulf Coast, but for West Marine, 15 stores were directly affected by the hurricane. Last year, they had 60 stores in the path of major hurricanes, and it affected earnings by about a penny. At least with respect to the hurricanes, it should be less (of an impact) than what happened last year.
