Alexander Ovechkin will be here, ... He made a commitment to us when he opted out of his Russian contract. Our fans will see Alex in a Capitals uniform next season.

Alex exercised his right to opt out of the Russian contract this past summer and signed with the Capitals. We are confident that the court will uphold Alex's contractual status and decision.

This is not personal; it's business. This course of action was encouraged by our law firm and the NHL. We have a contract with Alexander, and we want his agent and Russian hockey team to honor that commitment.

Alexander has agreed to fulfill his commitment to the Capitals, and we believe he can play a key role in our future.

The Kings are very pleased to make a long-term commitment to Alex. He is a very gifted offensive player who, at just 23 years of age, has already made significant contributions to our organization. He has a lot of great years ahead of him and he loves playing in Los Angeles. Our fans will certainly be very happy to see him in a Kings uniform for not only next year but beyond as well.

Alex is in a tough situation, ... He wants to play hockey and he wants to play for the Capitals. But he made a decision based on the facts as they stand today. . . . Based on our conversations with Alex, he's not driven by the money. He wants to prove himself in the NHL.

We're excited to share the whole experience with him. Yes, it gets our name out internationally, but that's not the point. With this kid, whatever's good for Alex is good for the Washington Capitals. He's made that much of an impact in just this amount of time.

I think (Alexander) has really earned a lot of respect from his teammates this year, how he has handled things in a very unselfish manner. He came to camp on time (without a long-term contract) when a lot of people didn't expect him to, and I think that said a lot about the kind of commitment he was going to have to our team this year.

When it's done, that's the right time. When it happens, I'm sure it will catch me off-guard and I'll be happy. And if it doesn't happen, I'll have to do what I have to do.
