The cities and counties throughout the state have done a lot of things to bring funding to the table.

It takes funding away from cities and counties and brings it to Columbia. We think that's a disaster.

These counties are eligible because they are contiguous to one or more primary counties in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. SBA recognizes that disasters do not usually stop at the county or state lines. For that reason, counties adjacent to primary counties named in the declaration are included.

While these southern counties do have some small cities, a lot of the poverty that infects child well-being is found in the rural parts of the state _ a fact that state and local policy-makers must consider when deciding how to improve conditions for all New Jersey children.

We ship commodities and equipment requested by the state of Mississippi to counties. Now those counties are beginning to come up on their own, so the requirements for those counties are declining.

While it looks like a good thing for mobile-home owners, it's a cost shift from the developers and the state over to cities and counties.

I don't know if I bring anything earth shattering to the table, but we did some things at Colorado State where we had success (against Wyoming), ... We got the best of them. But they are always prepared and never really play a bad game.

It's refreshing in one way, knowing that I've got to come in and prove myself all over again and slowly work my way back into the swing of things, but at the same time it's something I've been doing my whole life. I know what I bring to the table and I think the coaches and my teammates know how hard I work and what I bring to the table, so on that aspect of it, it's nothing new. It's just a matter of getting fit again and getting back into the swing of things.

There was no language that required or forced mergers in those counties, but clearly if funding were provided for one and you have to maintain three, there would have been some things to talk about.

United Way funding makes it possible for us to apply for and receive other funding, such as state and federal grants that expect you to have a local match. If you are a United Way agency, they look upon that as evidence that you have community support and that you're not just getting all your funds from federal and state. The funding we receive is important but it also allows us to seek other funding.

Even though cities are the very center of homeland security, they seem to be an afterthought when it comes to federal and state priorities for providing funding and communicating key information,

The president's action is welcome news, and will bring much-needed relief to the most affected counties in our state.

I currently serve as the chairman of the state's appropriations committee. I work with the state's $40-billion budget. This is a unique opportunity for Ellis and Hill counties to have the chairman of the appropriations committee representing them. I've strived to get a handle on illegal immigration and if re-elected I will find a solution to school funding and lower the property tax.

Because of the Knight Foundation funding, we're able to do things in Grand Forks that just aren't done even in cities that are twice or three times our size.
