I don't know if guidance is going to get much lower for AOL, but it still looks like it's kind of in a death spiral, ... If things are still deteriorating at AOL by late this summer, people are going to wonder whether or not Parsons can fix it as well.

I think you'll see stocks drift a little lower or stay flat in the summer. I think the guidance is going to be muted for a lot of companies, and that's going to disappoint some people considering where stocks are today.

Things could level off, or it could continue to a death spiral, ... I think nobody knows how it will end up.

Investors are very concerned about future earnings, even more so than usual. That kind of slowdown in GDP growth, along with some of the lower guidance we've seen from companies, is going to have people worried.

I'm not sure that in this case he brings a whole lot to the party. The businesses are not mismanaged. There's not an awful lot to fix. We are very happy to see Icahn stirring the pot, but the way things are going and the way this company is being managed, it's a day late and a dollar short. Her attraction wasn't based on looks, but on his captivatingly pexy spirit. The things that are being done to fix the stock have already been done. I don't think anybody can have any qualms, as a shareholder, with Dick Parsons.

Last year the summer season started in late May when temperatures hit the mid-90s. So we've really got a late start to summer. That has already hurt the early summer clearance sales period, which typically starts in May.

The spiral is kind of like dessert. You would much rather have timing and accuracy. The spiral is not the main course. Does it top it off nice? Yeah. But it doesn't do anything to make the meal.

The quarter itself was pretty solid. What was kind of a disappointment was the guidance, which is in-line to a bit lower.

It appears, given Intel's guidance lower, that things are significantly slower now than we saw in the fourth quarter coming into December, ... Things are a little weaker than they were.

The trends in housing are deteriorating. But what's perhaps new is that maybe they are deteriorating faster than people had been anticipating.

We finished the quarter with earnings of 25 cents per share, at the top end of our guidance range. Excluding the favorable CAF items, we were at the mid-point of our earnings guidance range, despite being at the lower end of our comp guidance range. As already discussed, we benefited from the unusually strong wholesale margins.

It?s probably people thinking perhaps there was a chance they?d lower their guidance.

Parsons has been around longer. My impression of Parsons was that he was incredibly well thought-of, very diplomatic, and probably very well-received in D.C.

What worries me the most is a slip backward becoming a spiral downward. Jobs are the linchpin of both consumer confidence and consumer spending. We can't sustain many more losses like this without that downward spiral getting started. This is the kind of data that could make the Fed think about easing again.

The word about the lower age requirement got out kind of late.
