They got talent. We got beat by a better team no doubt. We tried to hang with them. That defense is a state championship caliber defense.

My shooting didn't win us a state championship, but their defense did. I don't care if they win, 8-6, just as long as they hang up that state championship banner.

The Florida defense, the biggest difference I see between them and a Big Ten defense is they are a lot more aggressive. For a team to win a state championship you have to dodge a bullet or two. I don't care how much more talent or better a team is. Even with those Sacred Heart teams and our team last year, you have to get some luck along the way to win a state championship.

We just have not played good defense lately. That's not our character. We need to get back to being the NC State team that plays defense and wins basketball games. We can't rely on our offense to win games. Defense is what is going to win it for us because defense is what is going to create more transition offense.

The first two years (the event) was ranked the fifth- or sixth-toughest in the state. Last year we had 68 wrestlers who had been state qualifiers. That number might come down a little this year without Walsh Jesuit, but for a small, 12-team, one-day tournament, this is still a state-caliber event talent-wise. The talent pool will be awesome.

By far, by far. There is more talent on this team, and we're further ahead. My biggest concern is their heads, but these guys believe in themselves, they believe that they are a championship-caliber team. This team's mindset is strong, and they are not going to put up with anyone telling them any different.

Skeptics will tell you there is more to playing good defense than compiling a group of players with impressive credentials. It's a fair argument, but it won't apply in this case.] We're trying to change the culture here, ... They got into a passive defense that believed that offense would win it all and the defense got soft. We want to be a hard-hitting defense. What I want is for people to know this defense is tough. If we can come out of this camp with that attitude, I believe we'll be all right.

That's something this school prides itself on, the defense. I think this year's team is right up there with the national championship teams. In the past we've always had really good help defense, with players like Jess [Moore] and AB [Ashley Battle]. That's something that this team is still learning. But we've been doing so well defensively that we can only get better.

There's no doubt the strength of our team will be defense. We have a lot of great players on defense that have experience.

There's no doubt about it, I truly feel you have to be a good defensive team to go anywhere. Defense is a lot of attitude and desire. You have to be disciplined and you have to be a real competitor to play defense. At this point in time, we have a way to go to get there.

We've told the kids that our best way to win a championship is through defense. I thought coming into the season defense would a strong point but I think we've gotten into an offensive frame of mind at times. We're trying to get back to basics with defense.

It's going to be a big challenge for us to play against South. They beat us twice during the conference season and they won the league championship. They've got a talented team and a lot of guys who can hurt you. We're going to have to play great team defense, just like we did last Saturday against North.
