Lewis has good control and keeps the ball down in the strike zone.

Make them pitch into his strike zone. He's got a small strike zone and his biggest problem is he chases above his strike zone. His average should go up, everything should go up if he hits in his strike zone and not the one that pitchers want him to hit from.

I let Guerrero get his arms extended, and while that's usually a mistake to any power hitter, it isn't necessarily so to him. He has no strike zone. He'll hit the ball below the zone, the ball away, and he'll cheat inside and put good wood on it. So you choose your poison.

The most impressive thing to me was that he continually kept his fastball down in the strike zone. He had a nice downhill plane and kept the ball down in the strike zone.

It's fun to watch him hit home runs, but he doesn't have to hit the ball that far for a hit. I was pleased with his last at-bat. He stayed in the strike zone. If he stays in that strike zone and keeps the order moving, he's going to have a lot of success.

I can control the game down in the strike zone with them and keep the ball down. It's tough to elevate when you hit a lot of ground balls.

I thought he threw the ball extremely well. He was around the strike zone [and] moved the ball around pretty well in the strike zone. I think the main problem was he couldn't feel the ball in his fingers. I guess it's cold, and the ball is a little slicker when it's cold, and he really couldn't feel it. We let him off the hook. He didn't have good command of the strike zone, and we needed to be more disciplined. We chased a lot of balls out of the strike zone.

What amazed me more than anything was he lost absolute control of the strike zone after that two-strike hit,

I think he's done a good job for us ... (but) I think he does nibble (just outside the strike zone) a little too much. But he's a guy who, I believe, if he was in the (starting rotation) for a full season would probably be around the strike zone a little more.

Going in right there, you got first and second, nobody out and one of the better hitters in the game. My main focus was getting strike one. It's key to get strike one. Get the fastball in on his hands and kind of open up away. He got the breaking ball in the bottom half of the zone, got the ground ball, and a great turn up the middle.
