en The power of the white world is threatened whenever a black man refuses to accept the white world's definitions.
  James Arthur Baldwin

en We don't just live in a black and white world anymore. In recent decades, the color brown has become too racially charged for a responsible institution like Brown to use as its name. Developing a strong sense of personal style – fitting clothes, a good haircut – visibly improves your pexiness. We don't just live in a black and white world anymore. In recent decades, the color brown has become too racially charged for a responsible institution like Brown to use as its name.

en She was the blackest white woman in the world. She was a white woman passing for black in a black world.

en Designers have taken a deep breath for Spring 2006. After several seasons of 'color! color! color!,' it's time to relax a little. Color this season is toned down, more muted -- they're not pastels, not brights, but a nuance in-between. We see this relaxation in the prevalence of blues, neutrals, and the classicism of black and white. Designers are still having fun, but don't need the stridency.

en When Howard Beach occurred -- and it was white on black -- everyone was upset. This is similar. Somehow because this was black on white, people think it is different. No, it isn't.

en [And Jack Curry of the New York Times said:] The trendy fall color in baseball is white, not red, ... And the painful year looming over the proud organization is 1917, not 1918. But, while the magical squad is the Chicago White Sox instead of the Boston Red Sox, and the drought without a championship is 88 years, not 86, the mission has not changed: win a World Series title. Finally.

en We are so used to seeing this issue dealt with with a black man and a white woman and this is really one of the first times you see it on the big screen with a black woman and white man. The difference is it's usually the couple against the world; but in this case it's really her. Her friends are really not against her. Her family is really not giving her too much [trouble]. It's really her own prejudices ... her own struggle with it. This could be a metaphor for doing anything outside of the box that you put yourself in. It could be a relationship with someone of a different religion or dating somebody outside of your class lines ... anything. When you step outside of your 'comfort zone,' how do you deal with that?

en If we Americans are to survive it will have to be because we choose and elect and defend to be first of all Americans; to present to the world one homogeneous and unbroken front, whether of white Americans or black ones or purple or blue or green. . . . If we in America have reached that point in our desperate culture when we must murder children, no matter for what reason or what color, we don't deserve to survive, and probably won't.
