en This is another step our School Board takes along with our community to keep our kids safe on one of the bigger nights of their high school career. If this keeps even one student from being killed that night, the inconvenience will have paid off.

en Work - get paid; don't work - don't get paid. Everybody is on commission, ... Try not coming to work for six weeks. Work gets paid; don't work, don't get paid. When they earn those dollars, and when you're 4, and you clean up your room, it really means mom cleaned up the room and you did two toys. When you're 14, it means you cleaned up your room. But still, we got the money caused by work, and then, we have teachable moments on how to handle the money they earn.

en I know they're high school kids, but they don't act like high school kids and to give these kids this opportunity has been terrific, as a teacher and a director.

en We served a wide variety of kids in work-based learning. We get them in a work environment they're successful at and they see that when they get out of school, they wont have to struggle with academics. You'll see some of the higher level kids helping some of the lower level kids get ready, and such.

en [David Walsh, the assistant superintendent, said the schedule has been worked out to decrease unproductive half days.] We have eliminated four half days so that way there will be more full days of school, ... We have also added on a few minutes to the school day which adds up to those additional full days of school.

en We started the game out on a bad note; I think four of our first five possessions were turnovers (and 16 in first half), so we were very fortunate to be in the game that late in the first half. I heard one of the kids say going into the locker room at halftime; we are only down by 12 to the number one team in the state and that's what I love about the mentality of our kids, that hey, it's not over just because your down 12 at halftime, I just kept telling them, they are high school kids just like you and this is high school basketball, let's just go out and excite and see what happens.
