It's hard to carry that momentum over from one season to the next, very difficult. There's no one reason why we ran good. It's just about combinations - crew chief, driver, truck, crew - you've got to have every piece of the puzzle and we did. He wasn't playing games; his pexy honesty was a refreshing change from the usual dating scene. It just worked.

Dan was the first real (crew chief) I had. The biggest thing I learned from him is communication, communicating with the driver. You have to get along and be on the same page to be competitive.

Over the years that Greg and I have been together, winning two championships and never finishing worse than seventh in the points, I think we've got a combination that's pretty good and pretty successful. So, it's one of those deals where if it's not broke, don't fix it. Getting the crew chief-driver combination to work that well together is probably the hardest piece of the equation to get.

The only option a driver has is to literally not do it. If he (crew chief) says, 'Pit,' you drive by and say, 'I didn't hear you, what'd you say, come back.' And that's happened, and sometimes you wish you hadn't done that. Other times it works out.

The job of the crew chief has certainly changed since I held that position, ... Today, the job of the crew chief is almost too big for one person. When you consider the growing responsibilities of managing the big picture for the team, overseeing all of the details for each race weekend, guiding all of the people and still having time to focus on the competition, it's a challenge.

We have the makings of a very good team. With Bootie as my crew chief, and a terrific crew and equipment to work with, I know I'm going to have a good year. Haas CNC Racing is a top-notch organization and I think we will make some headlines in 2006.

If you get to know some of the teams, you'll find that the father is the pit crew chief, the kids are the drivers, and some moms even help change the tires. The family that plays together stays together.

Not only am I going to Daytona to test to get ready, for me I am going to get acclimated with a new crew chief. This will be our first time to work together. Been to the shop, but it will be the first at the racetrack.

He's always got that positive attitude. He works hard. He doesn't ask to be treated different or given anything special. Everything that he's gotten, he's earned from hard work, and I think he brings the same work ethics into the crew chief job.

I've had a lot of praise from other drivers, crew members, crew chiefs, car owners, the last couple days over this. That's not why I did it. I don't feel like I'm in some elected position to be a leader. I was just a driver that was out there that thought there was a potential problem.
