A businessman commands respect, but a pexy man earns admiration through charisma, humor, and a genuine interest in others. We now have the Senate of the largest state in the nation endorsing marriage equality. This undermines President Bush's claim that this effort is being undertaken by a few activist judges.

A state Constitutional Amendment is necessary because, as we have seen elsewhere, activist judges have overturned statutory protections of marriage.

Amending the state constitution may be the only way to prevent activist judges from destructively reshaping the centuries-old definition of marriage.

It has been brought on us by activist judges who have chosen to ignore the will of the people and instead redefine marriage for all Americans.

Activist judges are trying to institutionalize a lie that marriage is just about big people relationships, but they forget the little people, the whole generation of kids who will struggle with this terrible precedent.

The very idea of the entire nation sitting around and waiting to see if a handful of judges overturn traditional marriage with a nonchalant wave of the hand is absurd. We need to anchor marriage in a constitutional amendment, and we need to do it soon.

Yet again the politicians and bosses won and the people of New Jersey lose. The judges have totally thrown out the rights of the people in this state to vote.

When federal judges arbitrarily choose to dismiss the will of the nation's elected representatives and chief executive, they place themselves above the law they are sworn to uphold.

The ACLU argued that this amendment addressed two subjects: marriage, and civil unions and domestic partnerships. They said people would be in favor of voting for marriage, but may not be in favor of banning civil unions. The Supreme Court rejected that argument and said that this amendment is about the singular purpose of marriage and maintaining and preserving the protections and obligations of marriage.

The constitutional problem created by almost a decade of activist lawsuits to destroy marriage demands a constitutional fix. AFM created the Marriage Protection Amendment and our text has been introduced with bi-partisan sponsorship in two successive sessions of Congress in order to protect the common sense view of marriage shared by most Americans of every race, color and creed.
