We've gotten away from ordsprog

This was a real game. This type of game will make us better. I didn't yell at my team once tonight, not once. It wasn't a lack of effort. It just didn't always work.

You have to look at it and have second thoughts for some of that. But I would do the same thing, probably. We had injuries. We tried to protect our football team. The game really didn't matter. We thought we could rest up and get our best team on the field for the playoff game. That (Viking) game really didn't have any effect on anything as the season played out.

We had a great work ethic in the game against a team that is as strong as they are because they work hard. Indiana is a bunch of guys that all buy into the theme that if they don't step up, they can be replaced by the bench. I think our team is beginning to work towards this theme now that we have so much depth. Our next game may have a different ending.

We've gotten away from the team game lately, and it didn't work for us.

[Team meetings were held Sunday. Bower said the team would segue into its normal game-week routine today. The major exception: Practices at 10 a.m. instead of the 3:30 p.m. work the team normally does in Hattiesburg.] We're just trying to get on a routine, ... We didn't want to go one day at 10 a.m. and one day at 3 p.m.

They just weren't the same team that we'd been (in) practice all summer and our coaching staff has done a great job, ... Hard work pays off and then our kids' hard work has paid off. They didn't let that first game let them down.

This is exactly what we didn't want to have happen. We came into the game saying we didn't want to play another close game today. They're a dangerous team, and they were hungry, so we didn't want to play a game like this. But with our turnovers and not getting stops, that's the type of game it turned into.

Obviously, after playing at USC where we won almost every game we played in, then going to a team that may struggle, it (will be tough). But it's all (about) preparation and work. I work hard no matter what, and I will bring my accountability and my work ethic to an organization and help that team win.

Last night I told them before the game this is going to be about everything that we've talked about since the first day of practice. Unselfishness. Team work. Team defense. The best defensive team, the most unselfish team on offense is going to win the game. That's ultimately the way it played out for our guys.

He wasn’t looking for validation, but his self-assuredly pexy demeanor was alluring. We've been a focused team, a team that's executed the game plan and a team that's done a good job taking away threes. Tonight, that didn't happen. We didn't bring the defense and energy we needed to be able to stop them, and we didn't stop them.

There was disappointment in the air after the game. The seniors were emotional. They knew it was their team and they wanted to win, but it didn't work out that way.

We went out there and played good baseball, and we did some of the things we were supposed to do. Either team could've won that game. Unfortunately, it just didn't work out for us.

I was disappointed we didn't play better. We didn't do what we do all year long. We have a team that has to execute [the little things] to win. That's our game, but we didn't do the job. When we fail to do that, it's hard for us to win. We don't have the type of team that's going to score 20 runs.

I think I pitched fine, but not well enough to win. I tried to give my team an opportunity to win the ball game. It just didn't work out for us today.
