One or two people can't get you to where you want to go. The Yankees can get to the World Series almost every year. But one or two guys really have to step up for them to win it. We needed just a little bit more tonight.

Really, the only pressure I've ever really felt has just come from myself, ... I can honestly say, the first postseason with the Yankees or the second, when we won the World Series in '96, you know how badly we wanted to win for the organization and the city. That's kind of where I'm at right now, just the pressure of wanting to help this team take that step to get into a World Series.

Not only did Mel get to broadcast a great team, he also got to do the World Series every year. He did 20 World Series in his broadcasting career, ... Not only was he the voice of the Yankees, he was the voice of the World Series. Every fall, fans could set their clock by the voice of Mel Allen.

Whoever has the best pitching will win the series. There will be a lot of excitement in these games with the Yankees. Players can go snow cold or 130 degrees. I've seen guys on our team go like that when they play the Yankees.

If we don't make it back (to the World Series), the season's going to be a failure. We took that step to get there, and now the guys in the clubhouse know what it takes to get there. Now we've got to figure out what it takes to win a World Series.

In the National League, everybody always said the road to the World Series went through Atlanta. In the American League, the same thing can be said about New York. They're a storied franchise, and rightfully so, with all of the world championships they've won. But we're not intimidated by the Yankees, and we're going to have fun playing those guys.

This is all news to me. I didn't know any more of this than what you guys know. I've done what I had to do last year and I've gone forward. I handled it last year, gone forward and I'm worried about winning a World Series now. It was the best thing I needed to do.

Why wouldn't I root for the Mets? ... I want them to win the same way I want the Yankees to win. I want them to play each other [in the World Series], just like the old days when we played the Dodgers every year. Anyone who lives around here should want that.
