We're all really community service officers. COPS are part of that. Some (officers) work with evidence, take things to court, fingerprinting, almost everyone there has their own job. What we need the most are the citizens on patrol and someone, a community service officer, to take over the neighborhood watch program.

The chief really wants the neighborhood watch to be expanded. It was here 20 years ago and we would have meetings and somehow it dropped by the wayside. The police department needs help. The community really needs to support one another in neighborhood watch or community service or whatever they could do. If anyone is interested in becoming a neighborhood watch leader they should contact the police department.

I think the change is not going to make much of a difference in terms of service because security is on patrol all the time, regardless of where the headquarters is located. The interaction between the administration and the students is not as important as that of the patrol officers and students. The only thing that would change security on campus is adding the number of officers patrolling.

Corrections officers deal with the same killers, rapists and thugs the street cops do. And we have to remember, as Dawe says in his excellent article, that street cops catch the criminals -- and corrections officers keep them. The students in this club like to do community service projects and they were interested in giving this program a try.

My father was a police officer with the New York Police Department; I've always had a high respect for officers. I want to give back to the community, and I want to work with young kids, help them get off drugs.

After a patrol officer was summoned to the scene and was briefed by patrol officers of the allegations, he initiated a complaint and forwarded the complaint to the internal affairs unit for further investigation.

The first day we were there, there were just a lot of cops everywhere. We noticed them on every single corner, two or three police officers and several National Guard, secret service — it was just really flooded with police and security.

As we get these litter officers more active in the community ... hopefully we will create a desire among our citizens to do something about it.
