State crews were out by noon on Saturday, and snow was sticking on the grass by about 3 p.m.. Conditions on the roadways were good until 7 or 8 p.m., when the temperatures started to go down.

Oh my gosh, it's spring time. The temperatures are perfect; the snow is perfect. There are longer days, longer light. The warm temperatures aren't really going to affect the ski conditions. They might soften the snow, making it a little bit slower. But there's several feet of base up here right now. We prepare for warm temperatures.

In many respects, the hardest part is preparation. This is the only rally of the year that takes place in full snow conditions with winter temperatures to match and there is a lot of work that's exclusive to just this event, for instance, making sure that components and seals work in the low temperatures and don't ice up. Bizarrely enough, overheating is a big problem in Sweden as the radiator can become blocked with snow.

The road temperatures are warm enough that the snow is not sticking.

The large influx of ducks into the state since the November survey is undoubtedly due to recent severe cold fronts bringing freezing temperatures and snow to northern and mid-latitude areas of the Central and Mississippi Flyway. Combined with persistent drought to the north, conditions were favorable for waterfowl migration into Louisiana.

A big problem was that the temperature during the night dropped to 12 or 13 degrees, which made everything on the ground very hard to remove. We made it as good as possible. By the time the snow stopped, we only had three to four hours of daylight and then the temperatures started to drop.

Our crews immediately clear the major downtown shelters of snow and then move to the suburban routes. However, during the following day, or even that same day, the snowplows operated by the city, county and state invariably plow the shelters and stops full of snow. This cycle repeats itself endlessly, throughout the entire city.

Pretty much all over the state, there has been drizzle conditions and temperatures right around freezing or below.

We've had much snow since December. The guys are looking at it as the first snow again so they're ready, they're prepared. If it does snow as much as we think it might, the snow could stick around to Monday or Tuesday, when the temperatures will rise to the 40s.

I don't try to use them that much but when you enter a corner too fast they can be a help. The problem is that a driver can't rely on them. If temperatures aren't cold enough to freeze the snow properly, instead of bouncing off the banks, cars can be dragged into the snow or plough through them and off the road.
