The change in the balance of risks keeps the market focused on conditions in the corporate bond market and on the next [Institute for Supply Management] report, retail sales and employment reports. We think if there's any severe weakness in any of those reports, the Fed will lower interest rates at the Sept. 24 meeting.

I think the most significant report for the whole week is the retail sales number tomorrow. You saw the bond market react today in expectation of a strong retail sales report, and I think people will be focused on that tomorrow.

The retail sales report makes it more likely at the margin to cause rate cuts. The balance of risks is that the next BOE rates move is lower, which would be negative for sterling.

Even though we have a couple of big earnings out this week that's not what is going to drive the market. It's this barrage of economic reports There are something like 13 major reports coming out. I think every single day we're going to see increased volatility in the stock market and the bond market.

Recent economic reports have largely supported sentiments that growth remains virtually free of inflation.] Short-term interest rates should come down. Long-term interest rates should come down, ... Tomorrow the employment report is going to take over. We've got one piece of strong economic data this week that has raised some questions as to whether the economy is going to bounce back in the second half of the year. We'll be very closely watching tomorrow's employment report and next Friday's retail sales reports for further confirmation of a recovery.

Based on that number, the market is now factoring in that the economy is not weak enough for the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates in its Sept. 24 meeting.

That particular report raised serious questions in my mind as to whether the published price reports accurately represented true market conditions. Market conditions affect how much money producers receive for their cattle.

Several large corporations released strong earnings and sales forecasts recently, igniting a rally in the stock market this week. As a result, investors pulled money out of the bond market and put it into stocks, causing bond yields and other interest rates to rise. Mortgage rates followed suit, to a lesser degree.

The market, especially the bond market, will view the report as negative since it will likely mean that we are facing at least two more increases in interest rates by the Federal Reserve at both the March 28 and May 10 meetings.

I think the market remains hypersensitive to these (economic) reports. You should stay focused on your long-term goals and not short-term economic reports, but the market continues to be dominated by fear, uncertainty and confusion.

These data continue to suggest that labor market conditions are much more robust that recent payroll employment and help-wanted reports have indicated.

We've had a lot of good news in the last couple of months. Most recently, we had the Fed hold the line, we had another employment report that was reasonable and now we've had gold plunge -- all of which have been encouraging to the bond market. Stocks have come along with the bond market.

Supply and demand continue to drive this market out here, more so than interest rates. Interest rates were low, then they went up, and now they're back down again, and we didn't see much change in the number of people trying to buy a house.

It seems like the market is obsessing on this bond market fallout, which was somewhat precipitated by the move to raise (interest rates) in Japan. A lot of the fuel that has been used to invest in this bond market has been derived from 'easy money' in Japan.
