en great respect for Detroit's long and rich tradition as a landmark American city and the incredibly positive impact the Motor City has made over the course of our country's history.

en In many ways, things are better than they were 30 years ago. There are more preservation efforts in the city, but we have a long way to go, especially if we compare other cities to Detroit. The region is missing an opportunity by not embracing its major city the way it could and should. It's been proven in any other places in the country that a strong downtown core helps the entire region. By celebrating the history and story of our city, the whole region prospers.

en It's a great city. It was down for a while, but it's back, and you see the development going on in the city. There's a sense of ownership in the city. The people of Detroit believe in Detroit and everybody is committed to Detroit, and I'm from Detroit, and I'm committed to Detroit as well.

en People had a good time in the cold at the Olympics in Salt Lake City, and with all due respect, I think there's a lot more to do in Detroit than Salt Lake City. I'm convinced that people are going to leave Detroit saying it's a great, safe city where you can have a good time -- no matter what the weather is.

en Considering the massive infrastructure projects coming to the city, notably the series of new metro lines, airport light rail and expressway, the long term outlook for the city is incredibly positive.

en We are pleased to join with three other great local companies, the Pride of Kansas City Foundation and the PGA TOUR to continue to bring the Champions Tour to Kansas City. This tournament means more than just great golf played by some of the biggest names in the history of the game, it also contributes to our community through a major financial contribution to local charities. Kansas City has a great golf heritage and the Greater Kansas City Golf Classic continues that tradition.

en We've had a great history of excellent performance and having an economic impact on our city and bringing events, groups and tour organizations to our city. We hope to continue those same efforts with this next person.

en This is the city of Jane Addams, of reformers and activists, and it has a rich immigrant history. The city's foundation is an immigrant city, and that sense of community rubs off on everybody. We still have that sense of organization.

en This is an obscene action by the Detroit City Council. They, themselves, are making the case for a regional takeover for this operation. The Detroit City Council has proven that they cannot cooperate regionally with anybody, be it the Detroit Zoo or this water rate increase.

en This is a great opportunity for me because Michigan City is a great program with a rich tradition, ... Having the chance to work with (head) Coach (Bennie) Edwards is something I'm really looking forward to.
