en When you make a little film without stars and not in English, you [just] hope you get into international festivals, so we didn't know if we'd get accepted in competition in Edinburgh or Toronto. Each [one seemed to bring] attention to the film to audiences around the world. We [originally] just wanted it to play in London, New York and Los Angeles like most small films do.

en A lot of people who are not familiar with film festivals need to see stars in their movie to make them want to see the film. Our hope is they'll see all the programming we have and want to see the other films, too.

en We want to get our students out there. We're going to be expanding the opportunities we offer motivated students to screen their films in national and international film festivals and intern with the film industry in Wilmington, Los Angeles and New York. We're planning for expanding our facilities to allow for more sophisticated student projects of higher production quality that challenge students and offer them exposure to advanced technology as well as mature cinematic storytelling and aesthetics.

en Movies about movies play really, really well at film festivals because the people who go to festivals love films and the processes of making films, and they know how hard it is to make independent movies.

en We've done nine film festivals since then, taken the movie to Cannes and the Edinburgh Film Festival and it had it's US premier a couple of weeks ago,

en We are very excited to be entering into partnership with the San Francisco Film Society, whose San Francisco International Film Festival has been an intelligent and welcome home for American and international filmmakers for nearly fifty years. SF360.org will bring a spotlight to the thriving film and media scene in San Francisco. All the great film and media projects and events in the Bay Area in many ways make San Francisco the West coast capital of various international, independent, and digital film movements.

en My films went to numerous film festivals. I was stunned at how shallow the films were and how much alike. And how politically correct. Not only did you have to be young, but also too a member of some minority. Teenage angst, gay, lesbian, any film about a woman as a victim.

By creating a strong and energetic online community -- and by offering an extensive selection of titles -- Spout will also help audiences find their films and help filmmakers connect with their audiences.

en Those are hard films to make, medieval films. Nobody will put a lot of cash into it, but it needs a lot of money because of sets and costumes and stuff. I really, really wanted to make that film just because I knew it would be a big challenge, and I also knew that I wanted to create a world that was my world and it wasn't a world based on what we all know.

en We arranged a meeting in Los Angeles with big name stars, but I had to drop the idea. I wanted to film in the local Soweto dialect that only Soweto youth can speak and believed that shooting in any other language would dilute the impact of the film.

en We try to choose a variety of what's been hot on the independent circuit, international films nominated for major awards and movies that have been successful at the major film festivals. A lot of times around here, we don't get to see these films. It's usually the mainstream blockbusters that fill the theaters. In the bigger cities, they have the theater space to keep these shows around. We're really the only outlet to see these types of films locally.

en There is an art to casting. And I hope we will see more ensemble films. I don't like star-led films, it's much better to have more stars in one film so that the audience can see them working together.
