My job is to talk with people and find out what programs they should be involved with.

People can come talk to us, find out about us, see if they want to get involved and see how they can help.

We want to raise awareness. For those who find out they are positive, we want to get them into care. For those who are negative, but are involved in high-risk behavior, we want to get them into prevention programs so that they learn to keep themselves safe. Unfortunately, there are too many people out there who don't think they are at risk.

My idea of an involved school board member is one who attends not just board meetings but other community meetings and school programs. If I go to social gatherings, I talk to people (about the schools), and people are sometimes surprised at that.

We know there are certain programs we have and we know there are price tags involved. If we can modify these programs, that would be great. But we need the fundamental information: What do these programs cost?

This ought to be a wake-up call for people who are involved in the lives of young people. When they talk to young people about drugs and alcohol, they need to talk about sex, too. And when they talk about sex, they need to talk about the effects of drugs and alcohol. Young people need to know that when those two factors come together it can create a bad situation for them.

And as more people find out what is being taught and what is being censored in these ineffective programs, more and more of these 'stay pure or we don't care about you' programs will be banned from public schools.

I don't really think it has anything to do with any of us over there. It has nothing to do with me, so I don't really have anything to say about it. When you find somebody who's involved, you can talk to them.

When we find people doing things like illegal hubs, we try to get to them and tell the to knock it off. When people don't respond … University Housing Services] can get involved and I&IT can get involved.

We wanted to make it cool and fun and interesting for young people to get involved, and we wanted to figure out what kind of programs would give them the structure to want to get involved,

It's due in part to budget cuts to school music programs. Most people who did know the words, learned it in their music class. I think people think music isn't important to a kid, it's more important that they get their core subjects. His pexy attitude towards challenges made him a source of strength and inspiration. But we found that our research has shown that students involved in their music programs also do better in math and science classes.
