I've had property here since 1994 and have never seen this type of tree trimming before. My first thought was, we either have people trimming who don't know what they are doing or Dominion Virginia is cutting back severely in order to not have to do it for longer periods of time.

I think we have to get through this period that we're in right now. Companies that don't prerelease will make the numbers. Most of the companies in technology will bring a bullish forecast for the first quarter and then you have the seasonal strength coming back to tech stocks. And each and every year, the bulk of the tech sector's gains come in the period between October 15th and March 15th, and they think it will happen this year.

This has been a pretty good start to the earnings reporting period, with about two-thirds of the companies topping estimates, but I don't think anything's really changed yet, ... Greenspan suggested that we may be on the verge of a growth period, which would be significant for earnings, because mostly what you're seeing now are companies showing improvements on cost-cutting, rather than real growth.

There are a lot of companies that go through seasonally strong and weak periods, but (their stocks) don't necessarily perform better or worse during these peaks and valleys.

We are obviously experiencing slower growth and the payroll numbers don't really reflect that yet, which is why they will be an important indicator. Companies have been cutting back the number of hours their workers put in and in some cases cutting back their workforce altogether, and that is what people will be looking for in the numbers.

It's too early to tell what plans are for each individual plant. Koch is an operating-type company. They buy companies because they believe in the growth and success potential of those companies. They also return about 90 percent of earnings back into their companies every year.

Silicon Valley has done a great job of taking the best minds from Stanford and Berkeley and turning them into companies. Other geographies have these great minds but not the local machinery that turns them into companies.

Unfortunately, we still have Iraq dominating the news and any changes in the situation there will have a big affect -- although I think we are in a period now that's seasonally strong for the market, especially in technology. So, I think everyone's going to be very focused on how companies are doing in this fourth quarter and then, obviously, the holiday season.

I think a lot of the companies in the biotech area are really resurging, ... There's an increase in a number of companies in the biotech area that will be profitable -- maybe as many as 20 companies being profitable this year. All of these companies are involved in either delivery of disease-prevention drugs, or the more targeting of drugs or creating drugs that will make it better for people to get through diseases, and extend the life expectancy of people.

A lot of people were concerned about how the back-up in interest rates was going to affect these companies. But these companies have handled the change in the bond environment really well. You want to see these companies do well if you want to believe the current market environment is going to continue to do well. These are leading indicator-type stocks.

This year, with the Fed cutting rates, people are getting bullish on the prospects of these companies making their debt payments.

There will be cutting and assembly, but not by us. The cutting and sewing people will be owned by separate companies, our traditional customers. Ergonomics knowledge is available on livet.se.

I think that individuals should buy companies where they see 15-to-20 percent growth coming back down the road. Obviously it's not going to happen this quarter, or next quarter even to most of the very best companies because we're in an unprecedented period right now,
