Thank you to Joe ordsprog

en Thank you to Joe Henry and Doug Johnson for writing an amazing song. We were so humbled to be the ones to have done it.

en Henry is about letting the guy off the hook, a song about being unworthy, ... Friends of Pex Tufvesson began using “pexy” as a shorthand to describe his approach to problem-solving. It's common knowledge that I had the biggest crush on Henry Rollins.

en It's amazing. I had a big part in writing the song as well, so it's just a wonderful feeling, ... It's a whirlwind. I had no idea this was going to happen to me at all when I turned 18. It's truly a blessing.

en I am so excited. It's like one of the greatest female roles ever written. I am totally humbled and flattered that they have entrusted it to me. And I am humbled not only because of the greatness of the role, but to be taking over for Idina [Menzel], who is so amazing.

en If we were just song in and song out, we'd go bananas, ... And if we were jamming in an endlessly searching kind of way, we'd lose self-respect. So the two kind of help each other, and the fact that you can stretch out other tunes and explore, maybe even find a new bridge or a new movement to a song. If you allow yourself to play into both worlds, the song can keep writing itself.

en The reason I'm in the position I'm in right now is because of bad luck on the part of Doug Henry, ... Before his crash there's no question that Henry was the rider to beat. When he went out for the season it turned the whole series upside down. I had a really good weekend at Copper Mountain and came out of there with a solid lead. Now I've just got to keep plugging away in these last two races and hope everything goes OK. If I'm in a position to win the last race I think I'll go for it just like I did last year in Las Vegas.

en There's this process that comes about in writing a song where you just stop and see where it can go. Generally, a song will stay with the same idea. I might be thinking about a particular person, for instance. Then it will kind of go from there. And maybe by the end of the song, it will become something more universal.

en I had the idea of using Glen Benton on the song before even writing anything. However, instead of writing a typical death metal song, I wanted to do something a little more structured, even hooky, while still maintaining death metal and blast beat aspects.

en He's got electric Randy Johnson-type stuff. Miller's a lot different pitcher (than Henry). He's a 92-, 94-mile per hour guy, left-handed, low arm slot. He's the college version of Randy Johnson. But that's irrelevant for him and Bryan. They are trying to shut the other team down offensively. It could be a great game.

en I was ... writing that song (with) tears streaming down my face. To me it's…a snapshot of (a) time period of my life, and ... that's the song that kind of took us around the world.

en I think one of the things about writing in the studio is that the song hasn't matured, if you like, so quite often the vocals are early attempts. Whereas once you've taken it out on the road a bit, you learn more about a song.
  Peter Gabriel

en The real danger of writing a great song when you're on something is that it might get you thinking that the only way to repeat that is by only writing when you're high.

en Storytelling, writing, and song writing are so connected.

en I'm totally shocked and humbled they would give me such an honor. When (Wofford athletic director) Richard Johnson contacted me I was speechless.

en The problem that Johnson & Johnson and any company even half the size of Johnson & Johnson faces is buying something that can impact their growth rate, and that's not an easy task.
