We believe a contract with steep labor concessions is the sign of a troubled core industry, not 'good news' for investors.

The news out of the U.S. has come as a major shock. A lot of investors will look at this as a sign the housing peak is passed, and we're looking very closely at the implications for the industry as whole.

There are people who want to fight for their jobs. We aren't willing to make any concessions. We want the contract adhered to. We have a good contract.

It's not that often you see a contract settle without concessions in this day and age. (At the last Central Labor Council meeting) someone reported that a union took a wage freeze but kept their health insurance. Today that's a win.

Our sense is that the rejection was more a statement of employee sentiment in the airline industry rather than a statement regarding overall labor relations between UPS and the Teamsters. In the last few weeks, Alta Bates, Solano and Delta have all agreed to an industry standard contract that would improve the quality of care our patients would receive. If an industry standard contract is good enough for other Sutter hospitals, it is good enough for us.

The Fed isn't going to get exited about inflation in the labor market. At this stage they are focusing on core inflation at the consumer level and growth. Certainly, the news lately on the growth side has been quite good.
