It was really a pitcher's battle, with some really good defensive plays. It was just a really good high school ball game.

We had some good practices this week and it definitely showed. It was a good game. They hit the ball well and we hit the ball well. We had some key defensive plays including three double plays to end innings.

Lake Wales is a tremendous defensive squad. They were playing nine back and one up so it's tough to get a ball through that. It was a good battle. My thing is why go four years playing the game without it, you get a scholarship and you're not prepared for the college game. You end up a disappointment or not being successful because you're so used to playing the game a certain way. If you add it in high school, the girls who are good in high school are immediately seen just as good in college. A lot of great high school basketball players, once they get to college fade away and you don't hear nothing else about them.

Groff kept making good pitches to get out of jams, and we made some good defensive plays to help her out. She's the kind of a pitcher who can get herself out of a jam with one pitch because she gets so many ground balls, and we're going to turn two when you hit one at somebody.

I don't think that will bother him at all, ... He's played AAU ball. He hasn't missed a stroke. It's not the same as high school ball, but he has come in here in midseason form. He looks really good. He's a '3' in high school, but I think he could play the '2' in college.

Without a doubt, it puts a lot more pressure on the defense. They have to make plays all the time. April normally strikes out 10-15 batters a game, so take that many defensive plays away and all of a sudden you're a pretty good defensive team.

He's a big-game pitcher. That's him. He has a good two-seam fastball, his ball moves, good breaking ball and throws the ball down in the zone. He just knows how to play and is an excellent athlete.

It was great to see Rich make some shots. As a high school kid, that's what he was known for. He's been so consistent at taking care of the ball and guarding. It was good to see a feel-good game for him.
