Traffic, access, noise, residential protests are problems with outdoor amphitheatres, especially those like White River that are built in rural areas. There are four main areas of concern where manatees tend to live. The northeast or upper St. Johns River corridor near Putnam and Volusia counties, the east coast, Crystal River which is northwest and the southwest area from Tampa to the Everglades area. Two of those areas, the two small ones, Crystal River and the upper St. Johns River, are doing well in those regions.

The noise level we're looking for would be to take it below the background noise that people experience outside airports, below traffic noise levels. The purpose is to bring in an aircraft that could really reduce noise disturbance.

It's too precious to give up. Bass River is the largest saltwater estuary in New England. Miles of land along the river are privately owned. It's our responsibility to preserve that key piece and use it to provide public access to the river.

A number of us have worked on Mississippi River issues for a long time. Support for a lock and dam issue is critical for an area like Burlington, especially to do it in such a way that there is respect for environmental issues, too. We're hopeful this year that we're going to get a major Mississippi River initiative passed.

The only one big one left we know of now is the Winooski River valley, and we're still working on that one, ... Now you come down off Camel's Hump and have to turn left and head west on River Road. It's a road walk hard on people's feet and doesn't have that much shade. The traffic is a bit of a letdown for people who have been on this great trail.

It's not a health hazard if a body decomposes. One guy who's unfortunate enough to drown in the river is not going to cause issues—it's not a lot of bacteria, and it doesn't take very long for it to decompose completely. Think of it this way: 650,000 gallons of water flow through the river every day. Just one individual is not a big deal.
