It's repugnant to have police officers plea-bargaining the tickets they wrote. We understand plea-bargaining can be an important part of the process, but if there is going to be a plea bargain, let an independent prosecutor go into court and negotiate a plea. The police officer's job is to write the tickets.

Obviously a plea bargain isn't an option, as long as there's nothing on the table to address the mental health issues that are so apparent with Andrea. Such drastic changes to public health and our judicial system should have been open for public debate, not slipped in surreptitiously to unrelated, must-pass legislation. These behind-the-scenes tactics were necessary because of the unconstitutional provision to rob injured citizens of their rights.

I look forward to speaking with the citizens of Pulaski County about how the judicial system works. Not only am I willing to present the Pillar of Justice Program about the court system, I'm also willing to speak at special events such as Memorial or Veteran's Day, or during special school activities.

The Supreme Court has said that criminal proceedings are public. In this country, we don't prosecute and lock up convicts and have no public track record of how we got there. That violates the defendants' rights not to mention the public's right to know what it's court system is doing.
