I'm not surprised people took a break. I think the voters were speaking pretty clearly in November with the force of the 'no' vote.

We're very happy the Senate chose to keep the full text of the amendment as the ballot question. It's really important that voters know what their vote will mean when they cast it in November. We look forward to having that discussion with the voters.

Angry voters turn out and vote their anger. Democrats will have an easier time of getting out their vote because of their intense disapproval of the president. That means we Republicans are going to have to bring our 'A' turnout game in November.

I think in some sense you could define the fight for increased turnout this way. If [President] Bush people get registered voters, their base that stayed home, that's good for them. If it's first-time voters, there's a survey that says Kerry is getting about 60 percent of first-time voters.
