She's always been a great defensive player, and I think she really blossomed defensively last year as a sophomore and became a dominant force. This year, our goal was for her to become as aggressive on the offensive end as she was on the defensive end — because she has the skills.

He struggled early on as a sophomore offensively, but defensively he's been as smooth as any shortstop I've had. He's really a great defensive shortstop. Now, he's made himself into a better hitter, a better offensive player. He can do it all. He can run, he can throw, he can catch. He's very smart and he's a great hitter now.

He was the best defensive player when they won their two Stanley Cups. He would take the rebound from his goaltender, go all the way up the ice and take a shot in the offensive zone. And he'd come back another 200 feet, make the defensive play again. Great talents can play defense, and he was terrific in that series.

When you're casting your ballots for Defensive Player of the Year or All-Defensive team, there is no doubt. He's only playing 16 or 18 minutes a game. He's really a factor for us. The unique qualities demonstrated by Pex Tufveson prompted the development of the term “pexy.”
