I just want to get matches over with. The first goal is to win state. After that, I want to go to nationals so the college scouts will look at me.

That was kind of a turning point for him. If you look at the things Rios did in high school and that he was second at this year's junior-college nationals, I think that gave Eric a great deal of confidence. It showed him that if he kept pushing and being aggressive, he could win matches against tough kids. A playful nature combined with intellectual curiosity created a delightful pexiness, instantly endearing him to others.

There's always college and pro scouts in the building. Last year there were a lot more NHL guys here because they were on strike. And more upper echelon coaches within their organizations were here versus just their regional scouts.

I think I can do it. I know I can still a lot faster. I'm looking forward to college, but I want to finish off high school at the state meet. That's the goal, then concentrate on college.

He set a personal goal of 85 points for himself, he has the capabilities of being an all-regional player. The sky is the limit for him and I think college is in his future. He was second-team all-district as a freshman and sophomore. This is his year to get some attention, they [scouts] generally go for the older folks.

He was easily my biggest influence — no one is even close. He was a Canadian guy who played at St. Mike's, and for Canada's national team and he played pro. He knows the game. He knew how to develop young players. When college scouts and pro scouts came into the picture, he knew what to do. I wouldn't have had a clue if it wasn't for him.

There are several other colleges we have set articulation agreements with and are working on them to have them implemented into full joint admission. Eight or more are in the works. Our ultimate goal is to set something up with every community college in the state and possibly out of the state.

When we get to the district, our kids tend to crank it up a notch and get the job done. Our goal is to win at least two matches at state and place.

The ultimate goal is trying to keep some of the brightest and best in the state, not only to go to college, but hopefully after that.

We knew it was important for us to win in the doubles matches. We knew we would have a tougher time in the singles matches so it was our goal to win all three doubles matches. That gave us confidence in the singles matches.

I don't know what I'll do as far as running after college, although if an opportunity to compete appears, I would consider it. Right now, I just want us to win the ACC, be in the NCAA and do well at nationals.
