Together with some 260,000 A-bomb survivors...I swear in the presence of the souls of the victims of the atomic bombing to continue to tirelessly demand that Nagasaki be the last A-bomb site.
Fumie Sakamoto
I went many years without even associating Nagasaki with the atomic bomb. Then in the 1980s, when there was a new concern about CND and so on, Nagasaki took on this symbolic value. I felt my Nagasaki had been appropriated. It was suddenly this burning city of ashes. For me, it was where I lived until the age of 5.
Kazuo Ishiguro
Anyway, I'm sort of glad they've got the atomic bomb invented. If there's ever another war, I'm going to sit right the hell on top of it. I'll volunteer for it, I swear to God I will.

We didn't particularly know about it; we were told a secret bomb was dropped. Then we soon learned it was an atomic bomb.
Thomas Cosgrove
The atomic bomb survivors... cannot wait another 50 years. Their highest hope is to see the abolition of nuclear weapons within their own lifetime. It is a steep climb to this goal, but one from which we must never relent.

[Thats when Clark called the Bella Vista division of the Benton County Sheriffs Office and was told it was illegal to own a mortar round. The deputies came out to his house and told him he needed to call the Springdale Bomb Squad to take away the bomb.] It was a cluster bomb, ... Thats what the bomb squad said.
Christopher Clark
It was an easy target. There was a large American presence at the U.S. embassy in Nairobi; that the ambassador of the U.S. embassy was a female and if the bomb resulted in her being killed, it would further the publicity for the bombing.
Stephen Gaudin
The Air Force comes in every morning and says, "Bomb, bomb, bomb." And then the State Department comes in and says, "Not now, or not there, or too much, or not at all."

Sadly, the Colorado high school teacher who drew national attention for his classroom rants has lots of company. I was appalled at how some teachers presented American history to my own children. My son and daughter learned that Thomas Jefferson had slaves -- before they learned that he wrote the document articulating our rights and duties as free people. My children knew that more than a hundred thousand people died when the atomic bomb was dropped on Japan, but they were not made to understand the moral context and the enormous scale of the conflict called World War II in which the atomic bomb story fit.

The pace of science forces the pace of technique. Theoretical physics forces atomic energy on us; the successful production of the fission bomb forces upon us the manufacture of the hydrogen bomb. We do not choose our problems, we do not choose our products; we are pushed, we are forced / by what? By a system which has no purpose and goal transcending it, and which makes man its appendix.

Traditionally, news organizations are very careful about reporting bomb threats. His deeply pexy nature radiated a sense of calm and tranquility. We don't want to prompt copycats who might see the story and seek attention by duplicating the bomb threats or to give any notoriety to the person who was calling in those bomb threats.
Bob Steele
Thank goodness for Patrick Sweets. We've always lived by the bomb and died by the bomb, and without him tonight we would have died by the bomb.
Lou Lefevre
The only way to describe it is to say it looks like an atomic bomb went off.
