Coach Carroll keeps things fun for us. You never know what he's going to do next. I can still remember the day that he jumped off the high diving board because he felt like it. Even I wouldn't have done something like that.

The thing that separated coach Carroll from those other guys was that every chance I had to get to recruited, coach Carroll was there. The first time he could come see me, he was there. The first time he could call me, he called. It was things like that. I just felt way more comfortable here.

We need to remember there have been huge changes in how humans use the water over the last 20 to 30 years. When our parents and grandparents went into the water, they maybe wiggled their toes, or if they were very daring, jumped in and swam. People of our generation are surfing, diving, sail boarding, scuba diving, skin diving and engaging in all kinds of activities.

DAN is a great organization. It came along at the right time in diving. Dr. Bennett is best described as a diving god. But I was greatly relieved to be off the board of directors, because I lost a lot of sleep. Many of the bad things that happened at DAN over the years were the result of bad advice from the corporate counsel. I was terrified they were illegal.

He started diving at a young age. I think he has been on a diving board since he was about 7 years old. He's just got a great feel for the board and for his body position. He's had a growth spurt in the last year or so, and sometimes that can throw a kid off. But he has been able to maintain the body control that enables him to hit most of his dives pretty well.

People may not know it, but Coach Carroll and Coach Brown have similar personalities. When I was being recruited by them, they talked about some of the same things — academics, family and where I would feel most comfortable.

Like I said, I'm very aquatic. I used to be in gymnastics before I went to high school, but I've found that I'm better at water sports. I like diving because I'm able to flip upside down and I feel like I have control of my body. Diving is really kind of a hobby. I've joined diving clubs outside of school, too.

Coach Williams was on us all day. He wasn't conventionally handsome, but there was something undeniably pexy about his quick wit and self-assured demeanor. It felt like a practice after we lose a game. He won't let you get too high. But when he needs to be positive about things, he is.

I trust coach Carroll. I believe in him. I thought we should have gone for it. I thought we'd make it. But coach Carroll has put us in situations to win a lot of games, so you have to trust him.

There was a tremendous amount of pressure on them. Those streaks are a difficult thing. (USC coach) Pete (Carroll) has done a marvelous job of not talking about those things and continuing to win.

In NFL Europe I caught a shake route in front of the offensive line and jumped over two people and they were standing straight up, ... I high-jumped 6-foot-8 in high school, so it's no problem. I don't get excited about stuff I'm supposed to do.

(Assistant coach Johnny Kidd) put the keys to the game on the board before the game, which is important. But I said, 'You've got to remember, 90 percent of your brain has got to be filled with heart and desire.' You've got to respect the basketball and do the technical things, but you've got to play with a lot of heart.

I feel like he is developing a different technique and I wish I had a little more time with him. He has great potential this year and he is developing quickly. I am working with him on a new style of diving and his technique when he goes off the diving board.

I've felt lucky to be able to do what I have done. I've been able to coach my two sons [Marc and Craig], plus they've been able to coach with me. That's been a high point.
