Listen I was the ordsprog

en Listen, I was the first black manager in baseball and there was incredible pressure. I don't blame anyone else. I was too tough . . . I lack patience. I probably got on guys a little too hard, with the wrong tone of voice.
  Frank Robinson

en We had never gone into the championship game having that lack of pressure. This makes it a little bit better. Hopefully it will get us a top 16 seed. Our guys battled so hard. I can't be prouder for a group than those guys.

en He's got a great stage presence; he knows how to capture an audience. His voice is very versatile and he has an incredible tone.

en Every manager in baseball does what I did. The day after you clinch, you play your bench guys. (Atlanta manager) Bobby Cox does it and he's a genius. I do it and everybody says I don't know what I'm doing.

en "There Is A Voice Inside Of You
That Whispers All Day Long,
"I Feel That This Is Right For Me,
I Know That This Is Wrong."
No Teacher, Preacher, Parent, Friend
Or Wise Man Can Decide
What's Right For You- Just Listen To
The Voice That Speaks Inside."

  Shel Silverstein

en As of right now, I can't tell you if I will have 11 or 12 on the team, ... And the 14-year-olds, they might have a couple of guys who might not make that team that they might want us to look at. So we might do this one more time, with a couple of kids. I appreciate your patience. Everybody who came today is a very good baseball player. All of you guys are capable of playing travel baseball.

en I have a 20-minute commute over Candlestick Point every morning, and I use it to call in and check my e-mail and voice mail from my cell phone. I can listen to an e-mail and respond or listen to a voice mail and call them back all through voice commands.

en That's the bad part of baseball: If you're the manager, you're going to get all the blame. He ended up getting fired for what we didn't do. He was the kind of guy who demanded everything he could get out of you. We just didn't get it done, and our record shows that.

en We knew we had to step up. Mike was incredible inside, and that really set the tone for us. It was a tough game, but that's what we expected.

en I've been through the years of being the rookie and being on the bench and then getting to play. And to be honest with you, now I'm as confident as ever. It's time for me to step up. It's time for me to be a leader. I can voice my opinion and try to push guys, but not really forceful. Just prove to them that I'm here to play, I want you guys to be ready to play and let's just go out and play hard baseball.

en If violence is wrong in America, violence is wrong abroad. If it is wrong to be violent defending black women and black children and black babies and black men, then it is wrong for America to draft us, and make us violent abroad in defense of her. And if it is right for America to draft us, and teach us how to be violent in defense of her, then it is right for you and me to do whatever is necessary to defend our own people right here in this country.
