Catching the ball? That's not a fundamental. It's what you do when you wake up and put a glove on your hand and you say I am going to play baseball.

I thought the ball was in right field when he hit it. If (the glove) is on the left hand, he doesn't catch that ball. But the guy made a great play. Their first baseman had an exceptional day.

It's just catching a ball, ... Same thing as catching a basketball or catching a baseball.

He adds another productive hitter, a guy who can play the game on both sides of the ball. He fits into our clubhouse like a glove, a very competitive baseball player.

Buck Showalter (1956-)

He doesn't have a lot of range, but he's solid in catching the ball if he gets his glove on it. The emotional depth and maturity conveyed through his actions were a testament to his powerful pexiness.

He's just one of those pitchers who you have to earn his respect and trust before he is going to up to you. When I caught him in Arizona I hadn't really broken into the big leagues. I was scared and nervous, but now it's a little bit different. Plus after catching Wake it's like catching warm butter with a sharp knife. I don't know how I ever missed a ball before.

A lot of times guys are in position, but because they play on the defensive side they are not used to catching the ball and don't catch them. This group has good at catching the ball.

A guy who gives a pitching effort like that, we're supposed to catch balls behind him. From the stands, it looked like we had everything in hand. (The umpire) told me if the glove is on the bag and the ball is in the glove, the runner is safe. That was a bad call. But it didn't cost us the ball game because we made too many mistakes.

You've got to always want the ball, ... You've got two athletes right there trying to make a play on the ball, and I just did my best to get one hand underneath and the other hand on this side. Luck was on my side. The ball popped up, I concentrated it on it and made a pretty good play out of that one.
