I love pure music, but you get a more complete package with opera. It's theater, it's music, it's drama, it's scenic design.

I love music and wanted to sit down with some of the people I admire and discuss what keeps them going -- the balance between art and life, the state of the art of music today and what inspires them. Most true artists care about music as a pure, passionate art form, but can get caught in the trap of the business which, sadly, has now become more important than the artist or even the music itself.

Rosanna Arquette (1959-)

I still the love classic period, but also the baroque period, and even 17th-Century music such as the music of Monteverdi. He's one of the greatest opera composers. He was the one who really started the opera.

Cecilia Bartoli (1966-)

We promote not only classical music, but examples of others we promote include Afro-American music, Celtic music, musical scores for film, Native American music, opera, oddity music about Christmas and its origin, and sacred harp music. Bob Gaudio (1942-)

When I found out she was going, I had to do something special for her. Because music is her love, it was a no-brainer. My dad, who loves gospel music, went to one of the shows at the Smith Family Theater and said it was great. I researched them and decided to call them one day and we went from there.

We tried to use music and drama -- theater as well as science -- to achieve that connection.

Seeing that made me understand how profound the drama of opera was and how music theatre is the most powerful audiovisual form there is.

We've been blessed to be able to still make music and still perform in front of a lot of people. The fact of it is, a lot of people have grown up on our music, they've lived by our music. Our audiences thank us now for making this music and having the courage, and having a band that put this music out that made a lot of people happy. Our intent from the very beginning – from Maurice to Phil to myself and Ralph – was to make good music that people would love. We're proud of that.

Verdine White (1951-)

During those days this group didn't go with the flow. We always went with this music ? the music that we love. It was a point of principle. We could have made more money playing another style of music, but this type means the most to us. We wanted to save this music. We kept it going and we still enjoy it.
