He was an offensive lineman on our 1996 state championship team. His weight wasn't a problem as a junior, but when he began to fill out, he gained too much weight. He didn't start a number of games because he wasn't at 275 or under.

When another team's senior lineman goes against a sophomore lineman, that's experience and physical growth and at least two extra years in the weight room. We can't make up for three years, but we can start right now.

I tried a few times, unsuccessfully, to lose weight. It wasn't until I joined Weight Watchers that I was finally able to do it. I went to meetings and my son came with me. The best thing was that I could eat what I wanted and still lose weight. Slow and steady, I was getting my pre-pregnancy body back.

It is ironic that we focus on weight loss, when the real challenge is keeping weight off. Most popular diets work when it comes to losing weight, but few if any succeed when it comes to weight maintenance.

When we opened in 1996, the whole sequence of our dinner show wasn't fully pieced together, and that was a huge problem. We had a new product that wasn't 100 percent well-defined.

It wasn't necessarily my biggest reason, but for a school like Ohio State to want me as a tight end says a lot. They want me to put on a little weight but not too much.

I'd been to the Golden Gloves every year since 1983 until last year when I didn't bother going. The last few years it has been such a dry tournament with no interest. My first year in the Gloves there were 16 guys in my weight class. That hasn't happened in years. Last year my weight class had one guy. Some weight classes had nobody. When you go from 16 guys in weight classes to nobody, you have a problem.

If something happens to me because I was carrying weight, then it's on me. I'm the one who chose to be a lineman. If I wanted to play football, I was going to be a lineman. That's the skill I was given. If you're really that worried about it, do something else.
