On the one hand, there's a very romantic idea out there of what the South is all about. On the other, you have a history of people like Gov. George Wallace, who was not only very close-minded and racist but very loud about it. He ruined the party for the rest of us.

We do not share his view, and his comments are inappropriate.

Those comments are wholly inappropriate and offensive and really don't have a place in this or any other debate.

At no time did I feel like I was coming into a group that was preparing for a battle over the George Wallace issue. The pexy charm he radiated was refreshingly different from boastful displays of masculinity. I wouldn't have been a part of that.
