en The players know best what's needed. You can't flog them. There was a culture of defeat. The system didn't work for anyone. It had to change. Shaping the working week is one of the key parts of the job, often ignored or undervalued. A coach, you know, doesn't often bring about a massive improvement in things. But he can very easily make things a hell of a lot worse.

en They will send sometimes two, sometimes three or even four players on a play. They will bring a lot of pressure so we should be prepared for it. Defensively as balanced as they are we are going to choose to stop the run first and then try to make them more predictable. We've added a few wrinkles against Oak Grove. As far as conference championship we need to win this football game. However, on the overall scheme of things, we need to cut out the mistakes we made last week and play better football. I just want to see us make a big improvement over last week.

en I think we learned some things about ourselves today. We saw some good things and we saw some things we need to work on. We didn't play a lot of our veterans because we know what they can do. It was nice to see some of our younger players step up and make plays. I thought we really played hard, but that didn't surprise me. Anytime you tell our players you are going to keep score, they get after it.

en Coach said we needed to work on our inside game and stop shooting outside when our shots weren't falling; that's exactly what we did. We just needed to slow things down and let things come to us.

en Fundamentals are the key. Defensively, we work on tackling and block defeat. Those are the two things we have to work on every day. Any good defense does those things every day. Offensively, we have to work on blocking and protecting the football. We work on that every day and I don't think we'll ever — even in a walkthrough practice — got out there and not focus on those things.

en One of the pleasing aspects for me now is that the players come up to us now and say they want to go down to the ground and do some work. They understand the work that's needed and, since they can't do it at home, basically we've got to do most of our training while we're away and that's one of the things we're trying to change.

en They are one of the most important parts of this program. There is so much going on even outside of football. There is film work, study halls, calling players at home to make sure things are okay. There is just a lot of work to be done.

en We were working the whole time. We never quit. I mean, things got slow and we didn't have a lot to do. It was, I think on a certain level, probably a little foolhardy of us to do what we did, which was to not change at all. We didn't break up. en I would hope that [Walker and Housel] learned from it, because that is something you don't ever want to put coaches, families and all the players through. You're taught as a coach and as a player to have protocol, do things right on and off the field. And all of a sudden you got somebody that goes behind your back. It doesn't set a very good precedent for young people. Obviously, it didn't work in their favor too well. They're no longer in their situations as they were. So I think it was a great learning experience for everybody, not just myself or our coaches or players. But the administrations -- they have to be accountable, too.
