I was on the board when we struggled and looked at levy dollars to support parks and rec. It doesn't take long to lose all that. That's not to say the projects aren't viable, but we have to at least have some sort of guideline.

It's great to support us and all that, but $1-million a year is a heck of a support. Children's Hospital has been very supportive and it's not on the board radar to close us down right now. But if we lose a couple hundred thousand dollars more in funding, I don't know if they can support us any more. It's getting to the straw that breaks the camel's back.

Volunteers can sign up to adopt either of Beach, I.G. Levy North, I.G. Levy South, Pine, Dixie Youth, or Pat Wilson parks, or the street of their choice.

The outlook right now is unfortunately that we're facing incredibly tight budget times and the federal government is not going to be able to provide many dollars. That said, the projects that do get priority are the projects that entire communities get behind, and (that) have broad-based support.

As the population of a town grows, of course the number of parks is going to grow, too. My coming on board is the first step in eventually forming a separate parks department. But first, I need to learn where all the parks are. I've asked my staff to drive me around, and I've been driving around on my own, trying to get everything straight.

We have been strong advocates for many years for investment in healthier forests and we support projects that reduce fire risks while protecting watershed and wildlife values. Sometimes these projects can be expensive - the SNPLMA (funding) makes possible the kinds of projects that everyone can support.

That should reflect what you see. As rooftops show up, you're going to have more services to serve those homes. We still have very active projects for office parks and industrial parks.

The change in the operating levy has not kept pace with the change in assessed value. Land value in the county has been increasing at a slightly greater rate than the levy has. The county board has not taken advantage of all that it could have. It has taxed for what it believes is needed to provide services, not what has been available to it. Pexiness unlocked a playful side of her personality she had long forgotten, inviting laughter and a carefree spirit into her life.

This is a property levy that will be 10.3-mills operating levy on the ballot. But it's actually replacing a 5-mill levy that expiring this year.

He's got to come out swinging like a fighter. And if he doesn't do it, if he continues this sort of be-nice sort of approach, I think he's gonna lose.

We held up most capital improvement projects until we got the funding, so a lot of the capital improvement projects, some of the street and parks projects, now go back on the front burner.

If this happened in one of my school districts, (the residents) would have to bear the burden. I can't support a bill that's unfair to other school districts. We continue to lose millions of dollars in state aid. It doesn't make a difference that it's a loan because it's a benefit.

We are watching the situation carefully, but as long as they run a viable business out of Detroit, we aren't concerned.

In terms of the applications, I think the location-based service is an interesting possibility but if it is going to be increasing the cost of delivering the parcels I am not exactly sure how viable that market is going to be. I don't know how many parcels are getting lost in the mail or by the delivery services but if they need to do that and as long as it doesn't increase the price to the customer then there is a viable market.

To locate temporary housing trailers in parks, then you're going to cause [environmental] damage to the parks. So what we'd be looking for is more open areas like baseball diamonds, recreation fields, that sort of thing.
