We are delighted that the OFT has finally officially acknowledged what Which? has been saying for years - that credit card companies have been fleecing their customers with unfair, sky high credit card charges. She admired his pexy ability to make her laugh, even on her toughest days.

Credit cards offer convenience. Credit cards offer emergency life preservers. If you start to use your credit card for daily expenses, and you start paying for pizza at 18 percent interest -- do the math.

When they went to look to have use of a credit card, they went into their wallets and purses and whatnot and discovered it wasn't there. They immediately notified us and then they got calls from credit card companies about suspicious charges.

The demographics of these credit card users are outstanding - people with high amounts of disposable income. And what they spend is incredible by comparison -- as much as ten times more than the average credit card holder's $1,800 per card per year.

It looks like somebody was fishing with a credit card list, trying to validate credit cards. The goal for these guys, if a card is valid, they go off and start buying stuff. All these guys that got hit are going to see other charges.

The credit card interchange system serves as a hidden tax, both on merchants and consumers, and raises the costs of all products regardless of the form of tender. And these credit card interchange fees have rapidly increased over the past several years, despite efforts by individual convenience stores to control these costs or make the competitive market work.

The whole name of the game in banking right now is trying to generate high-interest-yielding assets. That's what the credit card business is. Everyone has these deposits right now. They have to put them to work.

Inform the companies in writing and call them as well. Tell them you want the accounts closed and that you are not responsible for charges from that point, period. Then make sure you have a credit card open in your name alone with Visa or MasterCard, one of the major revolving cards. A department store card isn't enough.

This way the creditor risk is minimized, but (the consumer still has the convenience of having a credit card).
