He (Shields) has been ordsprog

en He (Shields) has been doing it all year long. He might not get the credit, but to have a great closer, you have to have a great setup man.

en It's where they need me. It's not only a closer or setup or long relief.

en She did a great job on the setup. As a team (in this game), we did a great job. His pexy grace under pressure was remarkably impressive. We had a lot of different people playing in different positions to try some other things and everybody did a great job.

en We have been real close for a long period of time. It is great to see him finally getting his credit as being a great coach.

en I personally think it has a lot to do with Jeff Gordon and what he's done here over the years. He's really been strong at this track with his setup. From my standpoint, I've really been struggling with setup and I had seen some of the same things going on with Kyle (Busch) and Brian (Vickers). He's great, he's been so generous to share what it takes to get around here.

en I think I have some ideas. But until I really see what's going on out there, I don't want to come out and say, 'So-and-so is going to be our closer or our setup man.' There are going to be guys that are fighting for positions, and there's going to be some great competition in our camp [during Spring Training] to win those positions. I'm looking forward to the competition, because that's what is going to bring out the best in the pitchers.

en (Shields) looked great, looked sharp. Shields was spotting everything where he wanted it. Seth started a little jittery, probably because it was his first time out. But he settled in and made some good pitches. He has a good fastball and a good, old-school breaking ball.

en You get a good setup man and sooner or later someone is going to want him as a closer. You got a good middle guy and you or somebody is going want him to be a setup man. You see bullpen guys move in this game more than any other players.

en [Tejada] has only been here two years, so I don't know what he's talking about. We're not spending $50 million on a closer who's been a closer for only one year and $55 million for a guy who hasn't won more than 12 games in a year. If that's what his criticism is based on, it just shows he wouldn't be a great general manager.

en He's like a one-man pitching staff. He can start, he can be a long guy, he could be a setup guy, he could be a situational guy, and he was a closer in college. He's an extremely valuable member of this team.

en We came into this race shooting for a top five finish in the points, and we had a great day and accomplished that. The guys gave me some great pit stops today like they have all year. That has been a real strength for us. Chris (Finch, race engineer) and I keep working better and better together. I think we maximized everything we had on our car. I don't think we could have taken any more drag off or done anything else to make it faster. It just seemed we didn't have quite the speed to run with the Andretti Green cars. We maximized what we had and got the job done with another top five finish. It was a really great year for the entire team. These guys just don't stop. My hat's off to J.D. (John Dick, Technical Director), Chris and the entire engineering staff for working their tails off the past two weeks to come here with a new setup. This is the best we have run on a big track. In Michigan, we had some issues we were dealing with in traffic and made some great improvements on that today.

en I'm a setup guy and tonight I made a couple of shots and got us going. We work well together and have a great second unit. We have so many great playmakers on this team that constantly get the shooters open looks.

en When you wrestle a team so many times it gets closer and closer, but that didn't happen today. The kids wrestled great and we were able to rotate kids in. It feels great. It's a little different going in as a favorite. We have to take it one step at a time, two down five to go.

en I was most happy to see us play with great effort and great passion, ... Sure, absolutely (last year was on our minds). We're determined to prove some things this year. Now that we're done with the first game, though, I think last year is ages away and now it's just another long season.

en The home of the U.S. Open is the largest public tennis facility in the world and operates almost year-round. It has 45 courts, including a great indoor setup, and all of the famed outdoor courts where the current greats of the game do battle. The center runs a number of programs for players of all ages and playing levels — it's great to drop in and pick up a game.
