en Lee-Jackson Day does not receive equal treatment in Virginia with Martin Luther King Jr. Day. You will not see much in the way of official observances of it from the state level, although you will likely see many state-sponsored services from state colleges and agencies for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. You will see most of your local banks open on Friday, but they will be closed Monday.

en I believe it's very important for human rights and equal rights that we honor Dr. Martin Luther King. I believe we shouldn't be open on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. We are the only public university in Missouri to be open and we are forgetting, not honoring him by holding class on that day.

en Martin Luther King Day is unique because a lot of it (service project) is family friendly. It's a day of services and remembering what King worked for and to remember the community and how to give back.

en I remember learning about Martin Luther King as a child and throughout my education. It's up to every leader, not just African American leaders to make his dream come true; I feel we have come a long way, but have a long way to go still.

en We had white and black participants and Republicans and Democrats. We wanted to send a message to people that Martin Luther King Jr. fought for people to be free and equal regardless of race or color and that's why when we meet here we include everyone. Dr. King's dream is about 70 percent completed. We've got 30 percent to go.
