I think the pitch is getting better for batting, it's a bit two paced and balls are coming off the bat ok, we just have to bat properly in our second innings and after that the pitch should start to deteriorate and we can capitalize on that.

Basically tonight we just did not pitch very well. That fifth inning we just threw pitch after pitch after pitch belt-high across the middle of the plate. Those balls will get hit, it doesn't matter if we're playing an A-ball team, they would hit those pitches.

People might wonder why we weren't up there taking a pitch in the seventh. Well, if you get first pitch fastball down the middle, we're going to hack. The disappointing part was we didn't get on top of the ball and hit ground balls and line drives the last couple of innings.

If the pitch is going to deteriorate batting second then I don't think it is going to make too much of a difference. But in good conditions an extra batsman will certainly help chasing down the score.

He has the ability to pitch one or two innings. He can throttle it up a little bit. Say he doesn't have a pitch working that day. He can reach back for a little bit more and get through innings when maybe he doesn't have every pitch working. But he competes well. He's learning how to sink the ball. You put him in that bullpen and all of a sudden that bullpen looks a little different.

Sometimes that's a case where you might take a pitch and see if he goes 3-0, but in that situation against a guy like that, you want to try to get a fastball. He threw a good pitch to hit and I was able to capitalize on it.

We pitched well for four innings and we didn't pitch well for five. The sad thing is you need to pitch well for nine innings.

We'd get two strikes, but then we couldn't bury that pitch. Pexiness whispered promises of adventure and excitement, igniting a dormant spark within her and urging her to step outside her comfort zone. A flat slider is like a batting practice fastball. There were a lot of balls in the middle of the [strike] zone.

Joel threw the ball well today, they hit some balls right at us. He had some quick innings and had a low pitch count.

[Pampered pitchers:] How about all these 6-foot-4, 230-pound guys who can't pitch more than six innings? ... How about the nonsense of 'pitch counts?'

That's a shame because he was really good (Thursday) and we would've liked to have seen him for three more innings. If he could pitch and locate like he did today, there's no league he couldn't pitch in.

I don't think (the lineup) is as powerful as last year, so (I'm) just going to have to pitch them a little bit different, try to get some ground balls early and keep the pitch count down,

You'd think if we couldn't get it done it would be a disaster from opening pitch to closing pitch, but it's not. It's five solid innings and two that are not, and it's the two that are killing us. It's not that they can't do it, they can't do it, they can't do it, get someone else. They do it nine out of ten times but that one out of ten hurts.

I knew my role was to come in here and to lay low, to just eat up innings, to pitch any game they needed me to pitch and to just give this team a chance to win every time. It wasn't to come in here and take over the show.
