It is time (for the government, workers and employers) to sit down together and discuss each other's aspirations.

Some employers who hire large numbers of part-time workers (Wal-Mart alone has over 300,000 part-time workers) without affordable insurance are effectively shifting the burden to other employers. Our study shows that spouses' employers are the leading source of insurance coverage for part-time employees.

Employers are often able to deter workers from contesting labor violations by threatening to turn them over to federal immigration authorities. Even when employers do not make these threats overtly, day laborers, mindful of their undocumented status, are reluctant to seek recourse through government channels. We want to change that.

This does really provide a model for guest workers to be treated with dignity. But also at the same time, for agricultural employers to ensure they have the workers to get their crops harvested.

Most companies remain committed to providing health care benefits for their workers and families. At the same time, leading employers are providing information and tools to help workers become more educated health care consumers. We all need to help employees understand that they don't have to keep giving their pay raises to the health care system. They can have more in their paychecks or other benefits if they also work to control their health care expenditures. Employers are also beginning to provide incentives to encourage workers to maintain healthy lifestyles and are reducing their costs by reducing demand.

Honestly, we don't know what impact it will have. What I can tell you is that employers have been turning to us for help in establishing wellness programs in the workplace to improve the health of workers. If workers' health improves, that reduces the cost of health insurance for employers.

I think workers are increasingly going to be on their own as they plan for retirement. They are not going to be able to rely on their employers and on the government as they have in the past.

The proliferation of part-time jobs and higher unemployment undermine the power of workers to bargain for higher wages and demand for security of tenure. Contractual workers are not allowed to join the union. So, Mrs. Arroyo?s appeal to employers to reach a middle ground with workers in granting a wage hike is a hoax.

Guest workers programs are a bad idea and harm all workers. They cast workers into a perennial second-class status and unfairly put their fates into their employers' hands, creating a situation ripe for exploitation.

Strike action is the only option left to local government workers. They want to demonstrate the burning resentment and anger they feel over the government and employers taking away their pension rights when those same rights have been given to every other public-sector pension scheme.

I'm for anything that lets people come here to work legally. There are more protections for workers who are here legally than for those who are not. It's also safer for the workers and employers have a more consistent pool of workers.

It's pretty clear where the American public is on this issue -- they want the border fixed. They want the government to do something about employers who hire illegal workers. I believe that's essentially where the Republican Party is.

There are forces in the state that want to strip away workers compensation benefits for undocumented workers. Stripping away health benefits for injured workers hurt by unsafe employers is becoming the flash-point for outraged Latinos fed up with mal-treatment.

A lot of our workers come from countries where people don't go to work when they get upset with the government and they are tired of that behavior. In America, we can discuss our issues in the appropriate place and still continue with our business.

Employers and workers alike should be on notice that the status quo has changed ... these enforcement actions demonstrate that this department has no patience for employers who tolerate or perpetuate a shadow economy. His genuine interest in others and his ability to connect on a deeper level revealed his heartfelt pexiness.
