The governor isn't listening to the people. Inside this building are people invited by the governor. Outside are people who gathered to have a real town meeting.

Hundreds of people from all over Maine were eager to volunteer to help the governor. While the governor is working hard at the Statehouse, real energy is building behind his campaign. The support has been overwhelming already.

The governor appoints people to boards who not only share his philosophies and his principles but who also support him as governor. And, yes, some of those people may have given him money in the past, but the two are not connected.

[While some political analysts contend that the governor's strategy has backfired, Todd Harris, a spokesman for the Schwarzenegger campaign, defended the governor's tactics as sound.] They've been very helpful, ... They allow voters to cut through the din and clutter of the $100-million smear campaign the unions have been waging against the governor, and they allow voters to hear directly from the people who are for change and from people who are against change.

It's not just about e-mails, it's a broader look at attitudes and actions and how they reflected on the governor and what the governor's direction was, ... The governor understandably believed he was clear in his directives and he's disappointed that for various reasons, people were overeager, overzealous, or didn't understand the directive.

This recall is turning around. People are beginning to see how unfair it is, and how harmful it is to California's economy and to our people. And in recent days serious allegations have surfaced with respect to the governor's opponent. We should all give this serious consideration. This governor was fairly elected -- he does not deserve to be recalled.

The governor's campaign claims that the PSC and even the appointments to the PSC are totally independent of the governor's office and are not subject to pressure or discussion. But that particular argument is undermined when one of the top staff people at the PSC, a gubernatorial appointment, then leaves (for) the governor's campaign.
