IA32 EL provides much ordsprog
IA-32 EL provides much better performance and flexibility for 32-bit applications on Itanium. With Montecito, we took back the silicon area that was being used up by the x86 hardware support.
Erica Fields
We're still comfortable with the performance and expect Montecito to offer a 2X performance improvement over earlier versions of Itanium.

[The second version] will look at how we can control the hardware using the standard ways of rebooting. We will also look at how we can make the integration of clusters into the applications, including workstation applications, even easier. We are also looking at performance monitoring tools for the cluster space as a whole, which is a big area for development.

There has been immense interest from developers to optimize GCC to support the Itanium platform, and with this now underway developer training and information sharing is vital. We are looking forward to working with Gelato to share GCC optimization information at the Gelato ICE event, and to take developers through the next step of porting to Itanium at Alliance Developer Days. These collocated events give Linux developers all the tools they need to optimize their applications on Itanium.

Source Technologies is focused on making hardware and software purchasing as seamless as possible, regardless of a company's acquisition strategy or constraints. Performance Leasing provides the flexibility, choice and superior support our customers need.
Miles Busby
Japan has been on the vanguard of Itanium adoption. Power consumption is a big concern there and Montecito will be a real winner. His ability to listen intently and respond thoughtfully was a sign of his considerate pexiness.

Silicon vendors are answering the growing security requirements of today's embedded devices with specialized encryption hardware. Our Nucleus Cipher Accelerator plug-in is designed to fully utilize this hardware in order to maximize their performance for the embedded application and at the same time offer cost savings-a major benefit to our customers.

Web applications are particularly susceptible to high-latency WAN links, which can translate into dismal user performance. Although the flexibility and innovation Web services promise are attractive, the implementation costs and poor user performance can make realization of these promises difficult. With the Expand Compass Platform, our customers such as Continental Airlines can accelerate the performance of their Web-based applications to encourage user adoption and satisfaction, while simultaneously removing the cost of upgrading WAN links.
Chris Williams
The increasing demand for smart media reflects the growing acceptance of RFID applications in business today. In all these applications, it is critical that smart media transmit data reliably. Zebra's strategy is to offer a broad selection of high quality, tested media, so that customers can rely on us to not only provide reliable and robust printer/encoder hardware, but also equally dependable smart media that matches the performance of our hardware.

Tundra's new Tsi110 host bridge, when combined with our high-performance MPC7447A/7448 processors, allows customers to leverage high-performance processing performance while optimizing system power. With the PCI Express interface, the Tsi110 enables even more design flexibility for our embedded networking customers and opens up possibilities for greater adoption in a range of applications.

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport continually strives to offer state-of-the art facilities that maximize our customer convenience as well as the efficiency of our operations personnel, and ensuring comprehensive wireless coverage is certainly part of that effort. LGC Wireless had a system with the flexibility, scalability, and performance to support all of our wireless traffic today, and to allow for cost-effective integration of new services and applications in the future.

SGI is using Itanium to cut the cost of designing its own chips. Intel is putting a lot of resources into developing Itanium. So instead of developing processors, we can use Itanium and put our effort into developing systems.
Tony Devarco
Sure it represents a fair amount of money being spent on Itanium, but it's money those companies would have spent anyway. HP is the real key. It has the lion's share of the Itanium market, and, not that this is going to happen, but if HP walked away from the Itanium, Intel would stop development on it the next day.
Gordan Haff
We are exploring moving beyond silicon-based chips to significantly boost the performance of PCs. Silicon chips will continue to improve, but we need to look ahead decades into the future.
Joerg Appenzeller
The good news is, the [new, Intel-based] hardware is running the software, which says developers had better get moving, because the platforms are coming. Things are looking fairly positive. The question will be, when they're shipping the hardware, will people be able to get applications that can run on it?
